Should we be giving our children multivitamins? We want them to grow up healthy, and be protected from getting diseases and / or infections. So would vitamins help? Adults take them should kids too? Just like adults they need a well-balanced diet get obtain the essential vitamins that are needed for the body. This is even more important for need for children who are still growing and are in a development stage. You must admit that as hard as we try even with the extra determination, we put in there are interruptions that make giving our kids the needed requirements of vitamins difficult.
Changes since the 1950’s
Since most parents are career oriented nowadays it has helped contribute to this problem. Unlike the 1050’s there are many working moms. This leads to not have a huge amount of time to prepare well balanced meals. There are many more time constraints in our lives now which leads too being too stressed at work and feel tired when they get home. Most of families like these usually order take out or eat at restaurants and fast foods. Then there is the TV so many of our kids are also influenced by advertising to eat at these fast food restaurants every chance they get. And what do they get more and more processed foods that is not exactly healthy and could be called do not serve “junk foods.” Some even enticing them with kid meals that feature different toys almost every week.

And when we think of processed foods let’s not forget that a good majority of the foods, we find in groceries have already gone through some sort of process and will contain preservatives. You cannot always guarantee that what you find will be with the minimal processing. Even the grown fruits and vegetables for they may have been grown with techniques in farming or agriculture that has reduced its mineral and vitamin content.
Who’s a picky eater?
An additional factor that has also led children to not get the needed nutrition while growing up despite how hard parents try to prepare well balanced diet for them is their changing taste and being picky when it comes to eating. Some kids worldwide dislike eating vegetables and it is hard to force them to eat these. Their tastes can change as they grow and as they get older, they begin to eat balanced meals and tend to be less picky.

It is for these reasons that it is very important for you to let your children take supplemental vitamins. Usually your pediatrician would recommend for your child to take vitamins especially when he or she starts to eat solid foods, usually at the age of one.
This way while they are still young, there is still enough time to correct their deficiencies. Giving your children multivitamins would help give them the needed vitamins and nutrients that they miss in their everyday meals. This helps their growth and leads to healthier and strong individuals.
